What is the Alert Card For First Responders?

These cards are voluntary and meant to be presented to law enforcement, firefighter and emergency medical services personnel to alert them and assist the card holder who has specific needs.

This card does not replace the government issued ID card

Goals of the Alert Card for First Responders

  • Aims to assist law enforcement in aligning with their CIT Training, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel in alerting them and helping the card holder with specific needs.
  • These cards are not designed to enhance communication access or identify the holder as a person with a disability for any other purpose.
  • The information will be confidential and used only for emergency first responders and statistical purposes
  • Confidential information may be provided to the first responder if there’s a widespread emergency or evacuation

How Does the Alert Card Work?

  • Each card Can be personally customized to address each person’s specific needs, sensory, or behavioral challenges. We will have the emergency issue contact information for the individual.
  • There will be a short training video that should be watched prior to requesting a personalized Alert Card from ASDC – Autism Support and Disabilities Center
  • This video is crucial and align with the CIT training of the Law Enforcement
  • The video will assist the card holder to safely disclose one’s specific needs to the first responder
  • The alert card is not intended to server as a substitute for a valid from of Identifications, such as driver’s license or state issued identification card.

Process for Alert Card for First Responders

  • The card holder with specific needs will complete the application form online or hard copy form
  • The person with specific needs or support person/caretaker/guardian will attend a shorty video on proper use of the card
  • The person with specific needs and their caretaker, guardian or support person sign the acknowledgement that they have completed the training and understand the purpose and use of the card
  • It will take a couple of weeks before the person receives the card

  • Series of education videos from CIT Training that demonstrate how to use the wallet card in various real life scenarios. These videos are educational designed to be an approach and guidelines for individual’s with specific needs, their caregivers, and law enforcement offices
